Good morning! Did you miss me over the weekend? We had a great time last week talking about the power of community on Creative Market and how to get your shop noticed. If I’m being 100% honest, a lot of that advice has to do with getting your products in front of the people already shopping on Creative Market. As well as the influential staff members that make key decisions for the website. Such as the handpicked section, free goods or monthly bundles, etc. But, today we are going to step outside of the CM bubble and chat about ways to get your products in front of new or potential customers.
Now, before we start, let me say this. My favorite place to sell my stock photos is on Creative Market. I have loved it from day one. It’s easy to upload products, the start up cost for my shop was $0, the staff is helpful, and here’s one more reason why I love them. They do a LOT of advertising on my behalf.
Whoa? I know what you are thinking…they advertise our products for us? Whaaaaaaatttttt?
The short answer to that is yes, YES they do.
The long answer to that question is way out of my league, but I can tell you this. They regularly feature items on their FB page, their newsletter, Google+ and they throw out mentions on Twitter like candy. They also send out a weekly email showcasing your new products (each Sunday) to anyone who follows your shop. Oh, and when I’m doing my own online shopping, whatever products I have looked at lately on Creative Market conveniently pop up in ads. Soooo, again…out of my pay grade to know how all of that works, but it does build my confidence to know that they are hustling on my behalf too. I appreciate that.
Now, even with all of that awesomeness happening behind the scenes, you may still feel like your shop is not gaining any traction. So, how do you drive sales to your store? Let’s talk about a couple of ways to gain some momentum and hopefully increase your revenue.
1. Get active on social media. Instagram is a GREAT place to begin. When I started Twigy Posts last year, I had zero followers. ZEE-row. I didn’t tell any of my family or friends about Twigy because I wanted to see if I could build up a completely organic following. And guess what? I did! I started following people I thought may like my products. I would search popular hashtags and leave genuine comments on the accounts of people that seemed to enjoy using stock photos. I would say a huge part of my growth happened because I actively looked for clients on Instagram. The link in my bio took them directly to my Creative Market shop and I would feature my stock photos each day with a quote or a photography tip. If you are selling a digital item on Creative Market and you do not have an Instagram…start one today! As you build your following you will begin to notice a difference in your sales. If you absolutely hate IG (which, I cannot even begin to understand) then definitely put your time and attention into your Facebook page. Use the livestream feature to show people the behind the scenes of how you create your products. Show your products in use. Interview someone who used your digital goods to create something amazing. Talk about anything you think your clients will find entertaining, educational or helpful and add a link to your Creative Market shop at the end of each post. The power of social media cannot be ignored when it comes to driving traffic and sales. It is a major component in the equation.
2. Give away an item or items for free. Sound crazy? It’s not! It’s a proven technique and let me tell you…it works! There is a fantastic blog post on Creative Market by Dustin Lee that talks about the power of strategic giving. I would be silly to try and write my own version so I am going to link to it here. Bottom line, giving away an item of value introduces people to your shop and it instantly wins them over. One piece of advice. Be sure to give away a fantastic product. It’s kind of like a blind date. That first impression is very important. So, put those sweat pants away girl, and get out your best outfit. This is your time to shine!
3. Stay positive and hustle. We know that Creative Market does a good amount of advertising for us, but we have to commit to the hustle too! If you truly believe in your products, and if you are creating something unique that solves a problem…you are going to succeed. No doubt about it. So, don’t give up. If you are having a rough day or even a rough month, pick yourself up and start giving out positivity. Find a way to help someone. Get out of your own way. Seriously. No one wants to buy a creative product from Eeyore . Your products carry the energy and love you put into them. Stand out from the crowd by staying positive and working hard. Hustle, hustle, hustle. Remember, no one can sell your product as well as you can.
That’s all for today. Leave me a comment below and let me know how your shop is doing! I look forward to following your success and cheering you on!
